Academics in Grades 10 - 12

In these final years of a child’s education, it is imperative to ensure an enriching, supportive environment that is conducive to achieving the best possible results for them as individuals.

Our Approach

As a learner matures, so should the way they work.

Our Grade 10-12 program is designed specifically with this age group in mind. Each term, our learners receive an online course from each of their Subject Teachers. This Coursework has all the content which needs to be covered in that term and learners are able to work through it independently at their own pace.

Content Delivery

Coursework at Koa is designed for the online space, and delivers content with the following key principles in mind:

Contact Time

Even in the senior grades, we believe that learning happens best when everyone has a good amount of consistent support. So each learner has at least 15 live lessons every week with their Subject Teachers. This happens in the form of:

Masterclasses

Grade-wide, more traditional lecture style, with a subject teacher. Once a week for each subject.

Workshops

Small groups meet for interactive tutorial style lessons with a subject teacher. At least once a week per subject.

Pods of 8

Small groups meet for interactive tutorial style lessons, soft skills and relationship building. At the start of the day at least twice a week.

Our Pods

What makes Koa special is our unwavering commitment to ensuring we remain the online school with the highest teacher to learner ratio in South Africa.

Each learner is placed into a Pod of 8. That’s right – 8. We’ve always wanted smaller classes, and now we have them! Our virtual classes are highly engaging and accountable, where everyone has an opportunity to be seen and heard. Each Pod has a dedicated Pod Teacher who meets with them regularly throughout the week, providing focused support.

Dashboards

We want to make sure that parents know exactly how their child is doing. We want teachers to know just where each learner needs assistance. And we want to empower learners to take age appropriate responsibility for their learning.

This is where our Dashboards come in. Every learner has their own Dashboard, visible to them, their teachers and parents. These give a live daily snapshot of work progress, attendance, goals, subject marks, task submission, badges, and more!

Teachers monitor these Dashboards every single day, and we encourage learners and parents to do the same.
