Extra Curricular

At Koa Academy, we’re committed to rigorous academics – and we also create space for passions, friendships, and growth beyond the classroom. One of the great strengths of our model is that it frees up time and resources for students to pursue meaningful interests outside of school – whether in sports, arts, music, or community activities. Many families choose Koa for this very reason: our approach allows students to focus on their passions, receive professional coaching, and build strong friendships in their wider communities.

We’re also intentional about creating opportunities for students to connect – through engaging online collaboration and clubs, as well as in-person meet-ups and activities.

This balance of academic excellence, meaningful connections, and real-world growth prepares students not just for exams, but for life.

In-Person Socials

Community and connection are just as important as academics. While students connect daily in engaging online Pods, we’re also intentional about creating opportunities for them to meet face-to-face.

Every term, we host in-person events in each Koa city, including Nairobi — from social gatherings to educational outings. These events give students the chance to bond, explore, and create memories together, while also helping families connect with the wider Koa community.

Typically, there are two types of events:

Socials

This is when we simply get together for some fun! We’ll let you know what we’re up to, and you can come along with the whole family.

Recently, we have been art jamming, laser tagging, zip lining, ice skating and more!

Educational Outings

These events are similar to our socials, but have an educational twist. We’re on a mission to have a good time, connect, and learn all at once.

We’ve done experiments at the Science Centre, explored the Taal monument, dissected sharks, had a scavenger hunt in a history museum, and more!

Clubs

Our opt-in Koa Clubs are a highlight for many of our learners. Held every week, and led by a team of teachers and learners, they foster a range of passions and give learners another great opportunity to connect meaningfully.

Head of Arts and Culture:

Majozi

We are thrilled to have Majozi as our Head of Arts and Culture. Majozi is an award-winning South African musician and is passionate about creating a space in education for cultural and artistic passions to flourish.
"While searching for the perfect school for my daughter in 2024 I found Koa and instantly fell in love. Not only are they an innovative school they didn't just focus on the academic side but also the social side which I hadn't seen anywhere else in my extensive research.

During the week they have online social activities but they also organise in-person socials twice a term. We eagerly awaited the first in-person social event and we felt very welcome by the teachers and fellow students from the moment we arrived. My daughter had so much fun and was able to socialise with the other students and build relationships with them. As a family the social aspect is very important to us and to feel part of the Koa family at the in-person events is the cherry on top.

Thank you Koa!”
