Academics in Grades 10 - 12

In these final years of school, students need both strong academics and the right support. At Koa Academy Kenya, small Pods and personalised attention help students stay engaged, motivated, and prepared for success. We are registered with the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) to offer the South African CAPS curriculum, leading to the National Senior Certificate (NSC) – an internationally recognised qualification that prepares students for university pathways and future opportunities.

Our Approach

As students mature, so should the way they learn.

Our Grade 10–12 programme is designed specifically for this stage of learning. Each subject has its own online course with clear termly goals and structured content. Students work through the material at their own pace, while small Pods and regular teacher time ensure they stay accountable, supported, and on track for success.

Content Delivery

Coursework at Koa is designed for the online space, and delivers content with the following key principles in mind:

Bite Sized

topics for a controlled workload.

Ongoing Assessment

to build confidence.

Real-Time Feedback

to inform learning gaps.

Mixed Media

for maximum engagement.

Mastery Based

checkpoints to ensure understanding.

Contact Time

Even in the senior grades, we believe learning happens best with consistent, structured support. That’s why every student has a minimum of 15 live lessons each week with their Subject Teachers – ensuring regular interaction, guidance, and accountability. This happens in the form of:

Masterclasses

Grade-wide, more traditional lecture style, with a subject teacher. Once a week for each subject.

Workshops

Small groups meet for interactive tutorial style lessons with a subject teacher. At least once a week per subject.

Pods of 8

Small groups meet for interactive tutorial style lessons, soft skills and relationship building. At the start of the day at least twice a week.

Our Pods

Every student at Koa learns in a Pod of just 8 – a big shift from overcrowded classrooms. In this small group setting, teachers can give generous time and personal attention to each student, while creating space for real engagement and accountability.

Each Pod has a dedicated Pod Teacher who knows the students well and meets with them regularly throughout the week to provide focused support and encouragement. This way, every student is seen, heard, and guided to thrive.

Dashboards

We make sure parents know exactly how their child is doing, every step of the way. Teachers can see where each student needs assistance, giving them the opportunity to provide tailored support when it’s needed most.

Every student has their own Dashboard – visible to them, their parents, and teachers — giving a live snapshot of progress, attendance, goals, subject marks, task submissions, badges, and more.

Teachers monitor these Dashboards every single day, and we encourage students and parents to do the same. This keeps everyone aligned and accountable while celebrating progress along the way.

""I joined Koa after having a difficult experience with my previous online institution, and I was hesitant to try online school again. But Koa made the change from CAPS back to IEB a lot easier than I expected and helped me regain my self-discipline. As a result, both my grades and critical thinking skills improved.

We were encouraged to be adaptable, which is why I got my TEFL and Microsoft AI fluency certificates, to stay ahead in life. Even the small things, like playing chess daily from attending chess club, helped sharpen my focus and decision-making.

I learnt a lot of skills that help me in the real world. One of our tasks replicated the job application process. When I was presented with a part-time job opportunity, I already understood how to navigate the process and got the job shortly after.

Koa has staff that aren’t solely focused on academics; they genuinely care about the students, and this makes the learning process much more enjoyable.

I believe the things I learnt at school made the transition from school to the real world a lot less daunting.”
