Academics in Grades 4 - 9

Grades 4–9 at Koa are built for strong foundations. With small Pods and supportive teachers, your child gets personal attention and real-world, future-ready learning.

Our Approach

At Koa, learning is purpose-built for the online space. Instead of large, impersonal classes, students learn in small Pods of just 8, guided by supportive teachers who know them well. Our model combines interactive online courses with a generous amount of teacher time, so every child can learn at their own pace while staying engaged, accountable, and connected.

Our Pods

Every student at Koa learns in a Pod of just 8 – a big shift from overcrowded classrooms. In this small group setting, teachers can give generous time and personal attention to each child, while creating space for real engagement and accountability.

Each Pod has a dedicated Pod Teacher who knows the students well and meets with them regularly throughout the week to provide focused support and encouragement. This way, every child is seen, heard, and guided to thrive.

Contact Time

We’ve built in a generous amount of teacher contact time as part of every student’s daily rhythm. This happens in small groups and one-on-one, ensuring each child receives the focused academic support they need. Whether it’s overcoming challenges or building on strengths, our teachers are present and engaged – not just occasionally, but consistently.

Pod Connect

Pods of 8, soft skills and relationship building. Earlier in the morning several times each week.

Teacher Time

One-on-one help with a particular problem. Bookable on-demand by either teacher or learner.

Check-In

Groups of 4-8, focus on academic progress. Later in the morning several times each week.

Workshops

Groups of 4-8 with a subject teacher for learners who need specific support in a subject.

Masterclasses

Grade-wide, a more traditional lecture style lesson with a teacher 1-3 times each week.

Content Delivery

Each course or platform that we use at Koa has the following elements:

Bite Sized
Delivery

Topics are covered in smaller chunks, which is far more effective than simply handing over a whole lot of information at once, like a textbook.

Real-Time Feedback

Teachers, learners, and even parents are able to see progress in real-time, thanks to smart data being constantly fed back to us.

Mastery
Based

Automatic checkpoints mean that a learner will progress as they show mastery over each concept.

Ongoing Assessment

Most assessments are built straight into the courses, while others are completed in groups. This builds confidence and encourages learning.

Subjects

Build

Building strong foundations in Maths and Languages.

Engage

Engaging with the content subjects in real-world contexts.

Enrich

Enriching individual passions
which may lead to future careers.

Dashboards

“Mkono mmoja haulei mwana”

We make sure parents know exactly how their child is doing, every step of the way. Teachers can see where each student needs assistance, giving them the opportunity to provide tailored support when it’s needed most.

Every student has their own Dashboard – visible to them, their parents, and teachers – giving a live snapshot of progress, attendance, goals, subject marks, task submissions, badges, and more.

Teachers monitor these Dashboards every single day, and we encourage students and parents to do the same. This keeps everyone aligned and accountable while celebrating progress along the way.
